When war broke out in 1914, HMS Coquette, a 17 year old destroyer, joined the Nore Local Flotilla at Sheerness where she was used for gunnery training purposes. Misfortune befell her on 7th March, 1916 when she sank off the coast near Clacton after hitting a mine laid by the German submarine UC-10. 22 of her crew lost their lives including William Parsons. |
